Shine a light on Mental Health issues – Take the StigmaFree Pledge!

stigmafree-plainw

What is stigma? Stigma is a set of negative and often unfair beliefs that a society or group of people have about something (in this case, mental health). Each year millions face the reality of experiencing a mental health condition. Although many people today understand these are medical conditions, individuals and families are still often subjected to stigma and discrimination. October 2-8 is Mental Health Awareness Week, providing us the opportunity to fight stigma, provide support, educate the public, and advocate for equal care.

Friends and family can make all the difference. You can help shine a light on mental health issues and replace stigma with hope. Help change the way the world sees mental health. Take the StigmaFree pledge  and let others know there is hope and understanding.

Also during Mental Health Awareness Week, please consider making a Tribute Gift in someone’s honor to support the recovery-oriented programs and services of Step Up and Daniel’s Places. “See the person, not the illness.”
