The goal of National Philanthropy Day is to increase public interest in and awareness of the importance of civic involvement; spur action to connect with causes and each other; share the inspiration of what others are doing; and create innovative ideas for effective philanthropic engagement.

Today we join communities across the globe in recognizing all donors, volunteers, foundations, leaders, corporations, and others engaged in philanthropy.

This year’s featured philanthropist is the amazing artist Lucie Hinden.  Lucie is a family member who well understands the journey, and donates 100% of the proceeds of her art sales to benefit the work of Step Up serving individuals experiencing mental health issues!

“During my son Danny’s illness, I felt despair and helplessness. Donating my art work proceeds to Step Up, an organization whose task it is to help people on a daily basis, turns the past helplessness into present helpfulness. Creating art turns despair into joy.” says Lucie, who lives in Los Angeles and has been painting since 1998 and is a member of Women Painters West, California Art League, Jewish Artists Initiative and Los Angeles Art Association.

Today on National Philanthropy Day,  Lucie and Step Up join thousands of people coming together to put philanthropy into action with the theme: “Change the World with a Giving Heart“.

We pause to honor the accomplishments, large and small, that philanthropy—and all those involved in the philanthropic process—makes to our society and our world. THANK YOU!
