An Opportunity I Did Not Want To Miss

Los Angeles area volunteers setting up 54 fully furnished apartments on the VA West LA campus to end homelessness for Veterans.

“Not having served in the Armed Forces, I appreciate those who did, or who are now serving, so being able to contribute today is an opportunity I did not want to miss.”

– Volunteer Jerry Cullen

On Thursday, June 8, two shifts of volunteers from a variety of Westside organizations set aside time from their day to honor Veterans whose homelessness is ending. Brentwood School and Village for Vets supplied each permanent supportive housing unit with a “Welcome Home!” kit. Each kit contained dishes, flatware, cookware, towels, bed linens, toiletries, toolkit, cleaning supplies, etc.

Volunteers assembled bedframes, put the items in cabinets, made up the beds, and added the personal touches to ensure each Veteran moving into their new unit today feels a warm “Welcome Home!”

Volunteers came from American Foreign Legion Auxiliary Post 283, Brentwood School, Home Depot, LA Works, Path Point, UCLA, UCLA Operation Mend, Upper Bundy Next Door, Village for Vets, and Volunteers of America.
