We are thrilled to announce that the Department of Veterans Affairs has made a $3.28 million award to Step Up on Second to provide service coordination and permanent supportive housing placement for 100 veterans experiencing homelessness and mental health issues in the Los Angeles area! This is a major achievement toward the goal of ending homelessness among vets by 2015.
As our board member Philip Mangano says, “When it comes to ending chronic homelessness for our veterans experiencing mental health issues, there are no Democrats or Republicans, no left or right, no progressive or conservative. Simply Americans partnered to solve the problem.”
Ending chronic homelessness is truly a bipartisan goal, embraced by two consecutive Administrations in Washington, and is also part of the role of every community.
On Veterans Day 2013, we pause together as a nation to honor the men and women dedicating their lives to protecting and ensuring our freedom. We also that you, as our partners, use your social media to help spread the message that ending veteran homelessness IS possible! Step Up will soon be moving 100 of our nations veterans from the streets, shelters, and transitional housing into permanent supportive housing! #neveranotherhomelessvet.
