Navy Veteran Betty Love, a resident at Building 209 on the VA Campus since its opening in June 2016 has been working with volunteer writing coach Phil Glosserman since early 2020. Betty loves writing and has shared this poem with us:
Oh my God, so many times have I passed by my blessings because I didn’t like the packaging.
Carefully and wonderfully are we all made.
Uniqueness is so a blessing that everyone shares.
We go out of our way, searching, high and low,
buying things that speak to the world, “I am different,”
not realizing that we can attain the same feeling
and carry the uniqueness of our finds forever
by just looking in the hearts and souls of each fellow man we encounter.
Millions of treasures we pass by,
not realizing a simple hello or a smile is all that is necessary
to remove the dross from our unique find, in the person next to us.
