Mario came to the city seeking work but found opportunities were not plentiful. For nearly a decade, Mario fought to make ends meet and lived unhoused. After suffering multiple strokes, Mario sought assistance & learned of a new permanent supportive housing program to help people like him. The American Counseling Association designates April as Counseling Awareness Month – a celebration of and advocacy for the outstanding efforts of counselors as they seek to facilitate the growth and development of all people. At Step Up, our counselors make a huge impact on our members' success every single day. Thank you for your meaningful contributions to Step Up's life-changing work!

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abu

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, military combat and alcohol abuse have a strong correlation. Step Up provides its three pillars of support for veteran members through its Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program which currently serves more than 200 Veterans. The VASH team helps veterans move from the streets, shelters, and transitional housing into permanent supportive housing such as Heroes Landing.
